Most of you know by now that I’ve partnered with Zabar’s, New York’s landmark gourmet superstore on the Upper West Side. I’m thrilled about being a part of the Zabar’s team, it is a truly special place with a fascinating history.

To celebrate, I am hosting a giveaway with Zabar’s this week. Check out this fun prize! (gotta love that world famous rugelach…)

P.S. I’ll be appearing live at Zabar’s later this month in a Rosh Hashanah cooking demonstration… details coming soon!

UPDATE: CONTEST CLOSED! The winner is Steve L., whose comment was chosen by a contest randomizer. Here’s the winning comment!

“If you have not tried the Benedetto Cavalieri pasta from Zabar’s, you have not tried real pasta! This stuff straight from Puglia, is pasta perfection. I go for the elbow shapes every time!”

Congratulations Steve! Check out this Zabar’s post about the contest, and stay tuned for more fun giveaways! Zabar’s Announcement

  1. When I lived in Boston, we use to go to NY all the time and always made a stop at Zabar’s. Their pastry far surpasses any other. To actually single out something would be hard to do because everytime we went there, I got something different and it was always scrumptious!!! Any chance Zabar’s can move to Melbourne, Florida to be closer to me????

  2. I am a New Yorker and moved to Virginia. The Whitefish salad is to die for! Love the potato knishes, smoked salmon, bagels, chocolate rugelach and Zabar’s French Roast. We miss Zabar’s so much!!!

  3. I love everything at Zabar’s. As a kid my dad would come home from work with appetizing from Zabar’s. The lox was always such a treat.

  4. I lived on the upper Westside for 14 yrs & the company I worked for made deliverys od printed paper products 2 x/wk; Living in Az ince ’03 I miss Zabar’s & their neighbor H&H bagels. My 2 favorite items @Zabar’s was the high quality lox & whitefish!

p.s. i’m drooling all over my p.c. just thinking about deli items @Zabar’s!!

  5. In 1976 I lived in NYC. I was 18 yr. I used to walk down to Zabars and just enjoy the sights, aromas and then bring some rugelach home to my tiny apartment to have with coffee. For me its gotta be the rugelach.

  6. I have many favorites…I love their cheese department (all of it!), their baked goods are second to none (mmm scones & rugelachs), I order their coffee and have it shipped to my house – I will not drink any other… I could go on and on but these are my top favorites!

  7. Being a Jewess living in Maine has its drawbacks, the most notable of which is REALLY good baked goods (unless you try to do it yourself).

But for something TO DIE FOR from Zabar’s, I’ll take the Poppy Seed Roll any day of the week. It is just about the only food item anywhere on the planet that I will mail order!

When my biz associate (who lives 10 blocks from Zabar’s) comes to Maine I beg her to leave room in her suitcase for some Zabar’s.

  8. I love their Whitefish Salad. Being the shiksa from the south, my then-fiance/now-hubby took me to NYC. It was the weekend of the massive blackout. On our first morning in the city, he said, “I’ll be right back” and left the hotel room. When he returned, he had fresh bagels and whitefish salad from Zabar’s (which I had never had before…and promptly loved)! Now, every time we visit NYC, we have to go to Zabar’s for whitefish salad (among other things)!

  9. I love that I can get an array of Vermont Butter & Cheese Creamery products at Zabar’s! As a recent transplant to NYC from Vermont, it’s wonderful to get a taste of home.

  10. I love everything that I have read and heard about ZABAR’s! Unfortunately, living in Colorado Springs, CO, the choice is very limited! Look forward to trying at least a bagel!!!

  11. The coffee…we have been drinking Zabars coffee in our family since I was a little girl, our favorite is the French Italian…but Eli’s Health bread comes in a close second. That is my favorite!

  12. Oh, howI miss Zabars, miss NYC, yearning for hammontashin and rugelach. Thank Heavens I can look at their catalog and order from it. Once you taste their delicious food there is no going back anywhere to try and duplicate it.

  13. My favorite items are the coffee, the large egg by weight caviar, chopped liver, and vegetarian chopped liver.Of course there are many more that I love, like the cheeses, and bagels, jams, appetizer fishes and so on.

  14. How about their whole ‘appetizing’ department.
Everything, and I mean absolutely everything, is delicious.
    What to choose…???
