  1. I think my favorite holiday food would have to be cinnamon rolls. Perfect for cold winter mornings!

  2. My favorite holiday food is definitely lefse. This Scandinavian soft and delicate food is much like a warm tortilla made from a mash of potato and milk, rolled thin and grilled on a griddle (in our house, usually accompanied with lots of women covered in flour-y aprons and big smiles!). You can spread butter and sugar on it and roll it or fold it before eating – and some prefer cinnamon too. Though my adult household celebrates holidays from blended cultures, the lefse of my childhood will always be my favorite holiday treat!

  3. Honestly, my very favorite is the old classic latkes with applesauce. I was going to say sufganiot, but really if I’m honest with myself, I’d rather have a really good latke than a really good sufganiya.

  4. I was very fortunate to have a wonderful Gran who was “the best cook ever”. She taught me to cook, and when she was no longer able to prepare the meals for our family, I took over the kitchen. I was about 10 years old, but I had been taught well by someone who was without equal– not only in preparing food, but understanding what “comfort food” really means. It’s hard to pick just one favorite food when I was so lucky to have such riches from the kitchen. I would have to say that I truly love cornbread dressing. Such a simple food, but such a savory delight. I make my recipe with chicken broth, real butter, onion, celery, poultry seasoning, and dried cornbread stuffing “crumbs”–yes, the familiar seasonal package : ) I make it a Dutch Oven on top of the stove and then set the pan on my stove’s back burner–the one with the heat vent for the oven. From time to time, I will wipe the inside of the pan lid with a paper towel to keep the moisture from dripping back down into the dressing. While I am using the oven for baking other holiday treats and eats, the dressing stays medium-hot on the back burner, and it stays moist. The kitchen smells divine. When I first started cooking the holiday meals, I would take my grandparents each a tablespoon full of dressing for their approval. Another family favorite food–non-holiday–is spaghetti with meat sauce. It was a tradition for me to take my grandparents a sample of the sauce. I would butter a piece of bread, cut it in half, place each half in a small bowl, and then top the bread with a generous spoonful of savory meat sauce. I felt like a princess when Gran and Paw Paw would smile at me with enjoyment of my cooking.

  5. My favorite holiday food is anything shared with family…but mostly my Mom’s homemade cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning. It’s tradition!

  6. I just cannot get enough bread pudding–preferably made with challah–during the holidays. Packs on the pounds (particularly when drowned in a hard sauce…YUM!) but so good.

  7. I think rugelach is my favorite holiday sweet. Savory I would probably have to go with potato latkes with lots of applesauce and sour cream.

  8. I’m not sure I have one favorite, but I’ll have to go with creme brulee french toast on New Year’s Day. Made with fresh challah soaking all night in a yummy custard. My kids talk about it all year, but we only indulge on that one day!

  9. My favorite holiday food is latkes. I look forward to making them every year. Sometimes I’m so excited about latkes, I make them a few weeks early.

  11. My favorite holiday food is moravian spice cookies! Here in NC there is a strong Moravian community that makes these thin, translucent cookies and they are amazing! Oh, and I liked both pages already! :)

    My Fav would be potato latkes with lots of home made applesauce and sour cream. Then A really good Chocolate/Cinnamon Babka! With a nice cup of coffee! ….Heavenly!

  13. My favorite holiday sweet holiday food is probably my gingerbread scones. My favorite savory dish is Gratin Dauphinoise, from Anthony Bourdain’s Les Halles cookbook. Magnifique! And yes, I like both The Shiksa and Zabar’s on Facebook! Happy Holidays!

  14. My all-time favorite holiday food has to be my Mom’s lasagna. No one else’s could even come close. I miss a lot of things about the holidays, but I’d give anything to taste my Mom’s lasagna just one more time.

  15. My favorite holiday food is enchiladas. We have them traditionally beside our broccoli casserole and other typical holiday foods. It’s pays homage to the other side of the family in New Mexico that we rarely get to visit.

  17. Butter cookies from my great grandmother’s recipe– using my mother’s 1960’s cookie press- totally worth the wrist pain from hand turning that press’ handle through a multitude of batches!
