To celebrate hitting 30,000 “likes” on Facebook, I’ve decided to thank all of my loyal readers by launching an exciting new contest this week. By popular request, this giveaway will be open to anybody and everybody who follows my site, whether or not you use Twitter or Facebook! It’s a fun one this week, folks. You’re going to want in on this!

    I thoroughly enjoy all of your recipes. You go step by step and have colorful illustrations. You even describe the utensils and the various products you need in each recipe.

    You also have a history behind each recipe and the culture and heritage of each recipe.

    Even though I am not jewish I enjoy the culture of the Jewish heritage and the significance it plays in our lives.

    You truly enojy what you are doing and it shows in your cooking and your website.

    You are truly amazing and wishing you the best on this site and all of your future endeavors.

  3. My favorite Jewish food? Matzoh soup. No kasha varnishkas . . . brisket–no gefelte fish . . . ah. . I know it is challah . . . I mean felafel. Yes that’s it. Or kugle with rugelach for dessert! I read your blog because it is fun, informative, and has good recipes.

    I read the blog, because your trying to live a jewish life like me. Your blog makes me feel apart of the larger community of jews. Its like we are all one big family and this is how we keep in touch. This keeps me connected to my roots. I get to hear not just your voice but all the wisdom of the women who comment as well.

  5. My favorite Jewish food is Mazel Ball Soup (My mother in law makes the best) and I read the Shiksa Blog b/c it’s informative, funny, and eventually, maybe, I’d like to cook like my mother in law!

    I love reading your blog because I am learning about my heritage- My Mother never allowed us to know her mother, My Grandmother, who is Jewish. I love to read the recipes and learn about the traditions. It is helping to fill a hole up in my heart. Thank you.

  8. First time I saw Jewish food, my new boyfriend took me the Sunday Market in Petticoat Lane, London. We had kneidlach soup and then what they call a salt beef sandwich. Amazing never before tried flavours! Now, living in the US, any time I get to Baltimore MD, I HAVE to go to Attman’s Deli for corned beef on rye, or wonderful lean pastrami, with, of course, a ‘half done’ pickle and strong ginger beer. Such big sandwiches I always have 1/2 left for later. Apart from the food, the atmosphere is amazing with queues way outside the door at lunchtime, and everyone, blacks whites, Jews, kids, so happy, anticipating the delicious feast to come, they are super friendly, even though the wait is often more than half an hour. I wish I lived closer. It would be a regular Sunday treat.

  9. My favorite Jewish food is homemade gefilte fish served with red horseradish. I like it baked or boiled. I love it but only when it’s homemade, not purchased in a jar filled with jelly.

    The reason I love the Shiksa Blog is because Tori is basically good cook whether she is cooking ethnically Jewish food or not but she has a passion for Jewish cooking obviously because she is in love with a Jewish man. For that I admire and respect her. Converting is not easy and requires dedication and commitment. I consider myself a Baal Teshuva because I had originally been a reformed Jew and then became Kosher and Shomer Shabbos as an adult. I can somewhat relate to her because of that and think very highly of her. Her recipes are not difficult and she is intelligent and entertaining. As an aside, she is absolutely adorable too which matters little but I just thought worth mentioning. Margie Silverman

  11. Oh my goodness, how do I pick just one favorite food?! I love latkes, and knishes, and matzo ball soup. But my very favorite are apricot hamantaschen! I am addicted to them!
    I love to read your blog, facebook, and twitter because I love the modern approach you take to many of these traditional Jewish dishes. Sometimes finding a necessary ingredient can be quite difficult, especially living in the south as I do, but I can easily find what I need to make your recipes. I also love watching you explore the Jewish culture, not only through food, but through your travels. Although I am Jewish by birth, I was not raised Jewish, and I still learn something new every day it seems. I love to learn more about my people and our culture through delicious food!

  13. I think my fav jewish recipe is sweet n sour meatballs, then again maybe stuffed cabbage. Its so hard to pick only one ,because there are just too many to choose from. I LOVE your blog and your recipes. It takes me back to my childhood when i read your recipes along with a little story that you post My mom was the shiska in the family . She met my father during WW2 ,in Scotland. She learned jewish cooking from my Grandmother . Those were good times ! My Dad passed away when i was 9. We lost Mom 8 yrs ago. Your blog just reminds me of fond memories. The recipes are so easy to follow,my Granddaughter enjoys them also as she had cooking class at the Yeshiva and enjoys cooking jewish meals. I really enjoy your blog ! Keep up the good work !

  14. My favorite Jewish food is latkes. I read the Shiksa blog because I am a shiksa. I want to learn more secrets on getting to my wonderful Jewish boyfriend’s heart. His mother, who passed a litted over a year ago, was a wonderful cook, so he enjoys good cooking. I really wish I’d had more time to get to know her and to learn her cooking secrets. His mother was larger than life and she is missed so much!

  20. My mother rarely made it but when she did it was like Moses descending Mt Sinai with the tablets… we were ready! What was it? Her potato kugal made with real chicken shmultz.
    I can hear my arteries clogging just thinking about it. Yum!

  21. I LOVE to cook because I love eating food that makes my taste buds happy (as opposed to mundane). With everything on this earth, I have no one favorite thing in any category. My favorite Jewish foods include Sweet potato latkes, challah, cholent, pastrami on rye (trim the fat), apricot hamentaschen, falafels, smoked herring with spicy horseradish, fishcakes, (the list goes on)…

    I don’t know how I found out about you on Facebook, but your style of cooking, teaching and fun personality that comes across in your writing made me know that you are someone I wanted to pay attention to. You are better than Betty Crocker in regard to teaching us about various foods, giving us pictures and giving us background information. Your writing techniques, illustrative photographs and zeal for cooking what’s good are up there with the best. I know that I (or even someone who is just learning how to cook) can follow your detailed instructions and finish with great results!

  22. I love those great crunchy fluffy falafel balls, matzo ball soup the best. I have a Multi cultural family and my mom would make us dishes her father taught her its become comfort food. Now that I’m married and have a family of my own I want my children to experience all the different foods that express our family’s rich heritage <3

    Your blog caught my eye one day as I flipped through recipes, it felt like home. Wholesome dishes not just recipes but history, and experiences came along with your meals. So I've stayed and started learning how to make them while expanding my kitchen skills and enjoying a renewed love for home made meals. Cooking is a balm for the heart and soul not just for the body and mind.

  25. Charoset is my favorite. One time, when making it in college, I cut my thumb slicing the apples–needed 6 stitches. But the meal still went on (just delayed a bit)! I read your blog because I enjoy the fresh recipes that celebrate tradition and shared culture.

  27. Food! Matzoh Ball Soup. Hands down. Mine are light as air and i do use shmaltz, tumeric, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, stock instead of seltzer, and I put sauteed onions and garlic in and always cook in the stock themselves. mmmm.

    Why do i read your blog? It’s so inspiring to get a new spin on traditional foods. Food is such a part of Jewish culture that getting creative with it just seems natural! btw its the only blog ive ever read or followed. <3

  28. I loved braiding the Challah bread and making Bread pudding from the left overs…I loved the Hanukka recipees…I have enjoyed the fresh approach to teaching the culture and foods..I am also learning the history of the beloved Jews

  29. My favorite Jewish food is knish or whitefish salad!
    My fiance and are getting married in October. He is Jewish, and I love making him all sorts of dishes that remind him of his childhood. His mother makes amazing brisket…kugel…matzoh ball soup…and recreating these things for him brings a huge smile to his face!
    I can’t wait to pass on these traditions to our future children!

  30. I love Jachnun!! I know it’s not a traditional Ashkenazi food, but my Yemeni friends introduced me to it with sugar, tomato, labneh, etc. You can eat anything with it, or eat it on it’s own. It’s choc full of calories, but it’s delicious and keeps me full for hours!!!

    I follow the website because I enjoy reading about your growth in the Jewish tradition/religion. I also enjoy trying out recipes!

  31. My favorite Jewish meal is brisket and potato pancakes (I make a really great brisket), but my very favorite Jewish food is regulach. I bake for a living and have a major sweet tooth. I started reading your blog because as a cook, I am always looking for a new take on recipes or ways to improve my own. I could really use that pretty red stand mixer.
    Oh yeah, and can’t forget the other favorite, lox and bagels. That’s pretty high up on the list.
