Every Friday, I take my favorite “picks” from my week on the web and post them here for you to enjoy. But before I announce The Shiksa Picks, here is a quick recap of this week’s posts on TheShiksa.com– just in case you missed them.
THIS WEEK ON THESHIKSA.COM
On the death anniversary of Elvis Presley, I wrote a blog about what the King liked to eat. Celebrate his life with some freshly baked Southern-style Buttermilk Skillet Cornbread.
Learn the history of quinoa, then try my lemony gluten free Quinoa Tabbouleh Salad with fresh parsley, tomatoes, and mint.
A no-bake Peanut Butter Chocolate Pie with cookie crust in honor of food blogger Jennifer Perillo’s husband Mikey.
THE SHIKSA’S WEEKLY WEB PICKS
Here are some of my favorite picks from the web this week.
This simple, gorgeous sandwich was inspired by the author’s trip to Manhattan appetizing store Russ and Daughters. Goat cream cheese? Yes, please!
David Lebovitz is one of my favorite food bloggers. I was happy to see him tackle the challenge of making one of his favorite brownie recipes gluten free. These brownies look amazing– fudgy, moist, and decadent.
I can’t be the only one who has an abundance of zucchini in the fridge right now. Sometimes it’s hard to be creative and come up with a new way to prepare it. The Crumb blog’s Isabelle is here to rescue us! Grated zucchini, sweet peas, feta cheese, fresh mint and basil are seasoned and fried into crispy little fritters. Serve them with sour cream or yogurt on the side for a tasty and creative vegetarian dish!
Ann from the Cooking Healthy for Me blog featured these tasty looking Whole Wheat Blueberry Pancakes as part of her Seven Links challenge earlier this month. Ann’s recipes are always low-cal. She’s lost an impressive 20 pounds since starting her blog, so whatever she’s doing, it must be working! She’s also a super nice person. These pancakes look delicious and healthy, definitely worth a try!
A fascinating look at a small Jewish community in a remote corner of the Argentine Pampas. Many of these Jews from Russia became gauchos– Argentine cowboys. I’ve made a mental note to visit this place someday… I bet there are some incredible Jewish family recipes to be found there!
This week, New York’s iconic kosher deli, the 2nd Avenue Deli, opened a second location on the Upper East Side. Lucy Cohen Blatter at The Jew and the Carrot spoke to owner Jeremy Lebewohl, 29, about his “new baby.” Congrats to the 2nd Avenue team!
Every week, I post the Twitter accounts that make me smile with their
fun or interesting tweets. Here are this week’s picks…
Congrats to cake master Duff Goldman on his new show Sugar High on Food Network!
My friend Jackie at Domestic Fits finally joined Twitter! Follow her. She rocks.
COMMENT OF THE WEEK
This comment came in on my A Peanut Butter Pie for Mikey from blog reader Frances:
For Mikey, my great grandson age 8 and I will prepare a pie this week.
I truly hope your great grandson enjoyed the pie and the process. It touches my heart to know how many people have honored Jennifer and her story this way.
