The Best of 2011

January 1, 2012 was the second anniversary of my blog. As 2011 came to a close, I found myself thinking about the journey of this website– where it started, and what it has become. TheShiksa.com has evolved into a really special corner of the internet, a cozy place where we can cook together and explore the fascinating world of culinary history. In the past two years I’ve posted over 250 recipes and food history articles on my site. That’s a lot of deliciousness! I never imagined the blog would grow as it has and reach so many readers all over the world. Your comments inspire me to continue learning, growing, and sharing. It’s so gratifying to know how many of you are out there reading and trying these recipes. Thank you!

I am so excited for 2012. Over the winter break I spent some time brainstorming and researching new recipes and story ideas for the site. I can’t wait to share them all with you! Meanwhile, what better way to celebrate 2011 than to look back at the past twelve months and share my favorite recipes of the year? These are recipes that I have chosen from my own archives; I make many of them on a regular basis because my family enjoys them so much. When choosing, I had only one criteria in mind– flavor. So many of the dishes on my site have a great history behind them, but a few of them really stand out when it comes to the “yum” factor. I narrowed it down to 12, one for each month of the year.

  3. Stunning food!! There is not one thing listed that I would not eat. Now, I just have to gather myself in gear and make them. I’ll start with the salmon and kugle and go from there.
