Off Putting, By John Dinkmeyer

Like most others who are jamming and canning, I wash and reuse rings but always purchase new lids. However after several uses, rings also need replacement. Usually when they become misshapen, or when their appearance is off-putting to recipients of my canning efforts.(When preparing my jamming/canning for gifts, I remove the rings. Then I turn them upside down for templates on holiday wrapping paper. Running a pencil around lids, I cut out circles for topping lids. Replace the rings on the now covered lids....And voila! Instantly festive!)Back when I started canning 40 or so years ago, I had problems with lids not sealing after the hot water bath. (At 8,500 feet, bathing times are doubled due to water boiling at 180 degrees.) The next year of canning I became aware the water hotting rings/lids in their pot had sneaked to the boil. A query to Ball solved the dilemma; boiling lids destroys their ability to seal. Ever after, I ensure ring/lid water comes...
They're lids.. nothing special, what I expected, By Brittany

As the title says, they're lids! They fit my regular mouth mason jars (Kerr, Ball, Atlas, etc). Nothing really to love about them, nothing to dislike about them. They work.
BPA Free, By CA

When I was searching for replacement lids, I found a lot of talk online about Ball lids containing BPA. I ordered them anyway, and was pleasantly surprised to see that the box is labeled BPA Free. Not much to say about the lids otherwise, but it was good to see Ball investing in a healthier product.
