Brrrr! It’s starting to get chilly around here. I broke out my hot water bottle the other night because my feet couldn’t get warm under the covers. You know what that means? Time for some hot and hearty winter soups! Here are a few recipe ideas from me and my food blogging friends to warm you right up in this cold December weather.
This soup is the best ever! I’ve made it at least 8 times in the last 2 years, using low sodium chicken broth and cremini mushrooms (because we love them). I typically use 2 10 ounce packages of creminis and 8 dried shiitakes because that’s what comes in the package. I also trim the stems on them. I freeze 2 quarts so there’s always some in the freezer and it thickens up so much that I get 3 large bowls from each quart with the extra stock I add. My husband and I both love it! Thank you Tori!!!
I made and love your recipe for Mushroom and barely soup it is now my Hanukkah soup thanks for all your delicious recipes!
What a fabulous collection of comfort! Pinning 🙂 Thanks so much for including one of mine.
I made the mushroom barley and it was yummy and very filling.
with food like this, it makes you wish it was cold more often, nothin like a good bowl of soup to warm you up…
Hmm, Matzo Ball! It is one of my favorites, but I am the only one in my household that will eat it, so I can’t justify making it.

thank you; what a gift!
Strange to read your opening sentence as I sit here in the heat of the beginning of our summer ( New Zealand )
So many good soups! Which to try, which to try …
The soups look fab! 😀
And on another note… Just out of curiosity, Tori, seeing as how you’re based in Southern California, what temperature (asks the woman from upstate NY) constitutes “It’s cold outside”? 😉
Currently on the east coast! Arriving in NY tomorrow to 37 degrees, which I think is rather chilly. But for this California girl, anything below 55 is considered soup weather. 😉
Ah! Any chance you’re going to make it down to the DC are so your fans down can bask in your brilliance?

Oh nuts, Tori! I will be on my way to a basketball game at that time. Break a leg! Hope to catch you the next time you’re in town. In the meantime, an advance Chanukkah Sameach to you. 🙂
Mmmmmm
Looks really good!
These soups sound delicious Tory. I particularly appreciate your continuous inclusion of foods from oft-overlooked Jewish populations — in this case the Yemenites. I wish others would do the same.
Yummy
That would be Correct! Commented by Dorice the Kosher Catholic lol
I just ate, but these are making me hungry! Will have to give several a try. One question though: A grilled cheese sandwich would not be kosher with the beef hot pot, right?
Wendell kosher cooks do not mix dairy and meat, you are correct. 🙂 Most of my readers don’t keep kosher, but if you’re worried about that then stick to the vegetarian soups… or skip the grilled cheese! 🙂
uuummm Matza ball!
I’m putting down my rolling pin and going to make soup — what a beautiful collection of colorful warming soups, and such a nice break from all the holiday sweets that everyone is posting — thanks for including me!
Funny, I went marketing yesterday for items to make soup and Hanukah
cookies today. Yours sound much better and I can’t wait to try them!!
Happy Hanukah to you and your loved ones and may the light shine
brightly at your home!
Your forever fan,
