Mediterranean cooking has been a big part of my life since childhood. My first introduction to Mediterranean flavors came from my grandparents, Clarence and Lois Avey. In the 1970’s Grandma and Grandpa lived in a casita in Playa de Aro, Spain. They traveled the Mediterranean coast of Europe in a VW camper bus with a kitchenette. They cooked their way from country to country, tasting the flavors and soaking in the history of this beautiful part of the world. They also explored the Middle Eastern side of the Mediterranean, visiting destinations like Israel, Morocco, Egypt, and Turkey.
From a very young age, my grandparents instilled in me their love for travel and history. They shared their adventures through colorful slide shows, and recreated the flavors they had experienced in their California kitchen. Early on, I knew I wanted to visit the Mediterranean countries that had made such an impact on them. I started my Mediterranean traveling journey at age 14, accompanying my grandparents on a grand European adventure. On that trip, I fell head over heels for Mediterranean cuisine.
Then I met my husband, who was born on the shores of the Mediterranean in Tel Aviv, Israel. I was deeply immersed in the food culture of the Middle Eastern side of the Mediterranean Sea. Through our travels, I met culinary experts from all around the Mediterranean region. I have had the pleasure to cook with families from a number of Mediterranean countries, including Israel, France, Italy, Spain, Greece, Turkey, Morocco, and more. I treasure these global friendships, which have allowed me to expand this collection of authentic, delicious Mediterranean recipes on my site.
It is my greatest delight to share the cuisine and culture of the Mediterranean with you. The Mediterranean diet is one of the healthiest lifestyles in the world, and this recipe collection contains dishes that nourish the body and mind. This way of eating is good for your heart and your waistline! Many of the recipes here were developed by me in my own kitchen, channeling what I have learned about Mediterranean cooking into exciting new flavor combinations.
On my site you’ll see mostly Mediterranean, pescatarian, vegetarian and vegan recipes. I have worked hard to categorize my recipes into specific collections, to make the site as helpful as possible. You’ll also notice a number of Jewish recipes on the site. The majority of those dishes were collected in Israel, my husband’s homeland.
